I use the weekly reports to see how many activities my students did the week before. I also love the Real-Time Diagnostic to see what levels my students are on individually in each area/skill.

Making it fun:

I have definitely seen improvement in my students’ ability in math after using IXL. They love using IXL and are becoming more confident in their math skills. My students last year really thrived by using IXL. I had a very competitive group. I would also share with them any class certificates we received on the Interactive Flat Screen. During the pandemic, I would take pictures of the certificates and post them for the parents to share with their kids.

The Real-Time Diagnostic provides great data to help track students' progress. I appreciate how easy it is to assign specific skills and how user-friendly the program is for students. The Trouble Spot report also helps me identify groups of students who are struggling with the same skill and work with them allowing for flexible grouping.

Success story:

Year after year, I am able to see student growth as they regularly use IXL. Many of my students come to me performing below grade level. Nothing makes me happier than to see students' growth increase tremendously by the end of the year.

Skill plans, starring particular assignments, Live Classroom, the Real-Time Diagnostic, and Analytics are my favorite features that IXL offers. These features enable me to keep track of progress and understand where my students struggle and excel.

Success story:

I see great progress with each grade level I have taught using IXL as a supplemental for curriculum. IXL has given my students the ability to grow and be successful with our curriculum. I had a student last year that worked through the Pythagorean theorem as a 5th grader. She wanted to learn more and this was her enrichment. Being able to teach students at their level through this program enables students to go beyond what they believe.

The Student Quick View tells me what students are able to do and how well engaged they are. I love to see whether a student needs immediate help in the Live section and being able to message them! I also use the Diagnostic Strand Analysis to plan differentiation in my whole group instruction.

Strategies for success:

One of the ways we use IXL is by completing skills that align with our state standards after a lesson is taught. Instead of completing a worksheet, we complete the standard through an IXL assignment.

I absolutely love the Live Classroom. I am able to see a live feed on how my students are doing, how many questions they’ve answered, and if anyone is having trouble completing the skill they are working on. I LOVE how I can click on the arrow on each student's live square and comment to them on how they are doing. Sometimes, I simply let them know they are doing a great job; other times, especially if I see they are only answering one or two questions every 3-5 minutes, I can remind them to stay focused or if I see they have missed multiple questions, I can remind them to read the explanation.

Success story:

I had my students start in the 2nd-grade science IXL skills, completing one state standard skill a day as bellwork. By doing this, we were able to cover all of the state standards from 2 grade all the way to 5th grade. After state testing, I, for the first time, heard my students saying how easy the science test was because a lot of the questions were like the ones they did on IXL! I was so excited to hear this and happy for my students!

Strategies for success:

I use IXL to solidify students’ skills, remediate their weaknesses, and enrich their learning as a whole. Students are required to complete classwork and homework assignments daily. It’s a good tool for differentiation, intervention, remediation, and enrichment.

I love the Trouble Spots report and I use it to differentiate instruction, scaffold my planning, provide intervention, and address misconceptions. I love IXL’s Analytics reports because students can identify what they need to further strengthen to improve their skills.

Strategies for success:

I use IXL in the classroom to help gain mastery of the concepts being taught in class. We also utilize IXL for homework with Google Classroom integration to give challenging practice of newly taught standards. Then, after the assignment, I utilize the provided data from the Scores Grid combined with the Trouble Spots report to focus my small skill groups.

Previously, The Trouble Spot feature has always been extremely useful and a favorite of mine. In today's new virtual world, I have found the Live Classroom feature to be most appreciated. Knowing what is assigned, is actually being done in real-time is wonderful.

Virtual tips:

Using IXL for virtual learning allowed me the versatility of utilizing past skills to help fill the gaps for my struggling learners. With just a few clicks it provided above grade level challenges for those students that needed that enrichment. Using the Live Classroom feature allowed me to obtain important information on the spot facilitating a more productive lesson.

Strategies for success:

I use IXL for whole group instruction, as well as individual or small group instruction based on student needs. Once a week, I also have my students log into the Diagnostic Arena to test and gauge their individual needs. When we have a few extra minutes during the day, the students will log into their recommendations area and work on individual skills.

I use the Real-Time Diagnostic to help students who are struggling. I can see if a child is consistently missing answers or struggling and I can assist them right away. This allows for me to intervene and help children be successful on the spot.

Strategies for success:

Since no published curriculum correlates well with our state standards, I can choose the IXL skills and level of rigor I need to meet state requirements. For Reading, Language Arts, Science, and Social Studies, I use IXL as a supplement to the textbooks. I use also IXL for whole-class instruction as well as for intervention work.

My favorite tools are the Diagnostic Overview, Score Grid, and Live Classroom. I use these reports to better understand my student's needs and to have beneficial group times.

I appreciate the Real-Time Diagnostic and the alignment with MAP testing and Eureka Math. They were such great supplemental resources! It’s also great to have students spend some time at the beginning of the year in the Real-Time Diagnostic. It helps me set up individualized learning for each of them.

Strategies for success:

I use IXL in a variety of ways in my classroom. At times I use it during our small group centers and other times I use it for independent practice following instruction on a skill. I also use IXL as an assessment tool to evaluate students' understanding and mastery of specific standards. Lastly, I use IXL as a differentiation tool because I can assign students specific skills based on their area of need or enrichment.

I have Live Classroom pulled up when my students are working and I can immediately see how students are progressing and can see which students may need one-on-one assistance with a specific skill. This tool is also amazing while teaching virtually because I can track my students' engagement.

Virtual tips:

I used IXL for teaching virtually and I am also using it this year. The ability to have the questions read to students is incredibly beneficial as well because it allows students to be able to complete the levels independently.

I appreciate the Real-Time Diagnostic because it helps determine where students are when entering my class and it establishes a recommended skill plan to help close learning gaps. I also find the Student Action Plans most useful to help drive instruction. I use this plan in parent meetings and in child study team meetings because it shows real-time data and a learning path for individualized instruction.

Making it fun:

Each year I run an IXL contest where students win prizes for showing the most growth on their Real-Time Diagnostic strands. Seeing my students’ potential with my combined instruction, hands-on activity centers, and IXL practice has proven to show outstanding state assessment results.

Virtual tips:

I use IXL to help review for a possible “Covid slide” as well as a way to drive virtual instruction. Make it a weekly assignment and before you know it you have an extra pair of hands helping ease this transition into the world of remote learning. Remember we are in this together!

I find the Student Score Chart to be most effective in helping me gauge a student's progress across various standards. The Real-Time Diagnostic is also an excellent tool to monitor student growth in real-time. It allows me the opportunity to intervene when I see a child struggling with a particular concept.

I appreciate all features but the most loved feature would be the explanation for the students when they answer a problem incorrectly. They love to challenge a result but when I say check the explanation I quickly hear "oh I see what I did." I also appreciate the standards being aligned and how the program has the math program being used aligned to the different strands of learning. Similarly, I use the Real-Time Diagnostic as a way to drive my reteach for small groups. I also use it as a way to support students who are flagged as having struggles. It allows me to track their usage during virtual learning.

Making it fun:

I use IXL as a healthy competition for the students. The students compete with each other to finish a strand by watching the Live Classroom to track progress.

Virtual tips:

During virtual learning, we look for familiarity for the students, and for me, this has been my saving grace. I really rely on IXL when I need to help my Tier 2 and 3 students. Teacher Tips: Open the program up to the students and allow them to see what you are doing and how you are using the program to improve their learning. 2. Always project and model problems in the beginning and immediately when problems surface.

Success story:

Students scoring well below grade level have shown tremendous growth after many hours of practice and using up-to-date We set goals while implementing learning strategies to successfully achieve those goals.

I consider IXL the best differentiated program out there. If a student is missing prior grade-level foundations, I can quickly have them remediate those skill gaps. IXL saves me countless hours searching for content and allows me to remediate skill gaps on the spot.

The Analytics reports are excellent. They allow me to easily create accountability by pulling daily activity reports. With these reports, I can also see skills students are struggling with and instantly create small groups to work on these skills. I also use the Trouble Spots report to work on skills deficits in small groups.

One feature that I love is Live Classroom because it gives me a quick glance at my class and I can see when my students are idle or when they need help.

Success story:

I have seen improvement in my class because IXL has been an important component of my lesson planning. During the shutdown when we had to close the school, I planned to use IXL for a large part of virtual learning because it was the best way to teach math concepts virtually, assess students, and see what they were doing in real-time. We were very worried about the loss of learning for our students. When school started in the fall, we gave the beginning of year testing and my class scored very well in math and close to 85% of my class was making the benchmark or above. This was above my expectation!

Strategies for success:

In class, for my students who grasp concepts quickly, I use IXL as a fluency tool. When they complete their lesson content for the day they can get on IXL and practice any IXL skill they choose that they have already completed to 100 as a way to retain and solidify learning and practice fluency on topics we may have moved on from.

I appreciate the SmartScore system. The way the problems within a specific skill get more challenging as they grasp the concept means that students are always being challenged within their learning zone and it is easy for me to keep track of what content students have mastered and still need to practice.I also frequently look at the Trouble Spots analytics to see which students are struggling with what concepts so that we can do a whole class, small group, or individual review of concepts as necessary to make sure students can overcome these trouble spots.
